The Walt Whitman House & Visitor Center is a historical landmark and the final home of the “Poet of Democracy,” Walt Whitman. We developed a brand identity for the Visitor Center and an exhibition that chronicles his life from his birth on Long Island, NY to his death in Camden, NJ.

Exhibit Sections & Design System

The exhibit is broken up into four major periods of Walt's life—his early years, his first publication of Leaves of Grass, the Civil War and his years in Camden. A soft and humanistic palette color-codes each section.

The typographic system mixes Druk, Halyard and Romana for a modern take on late-19th century newspapers and broadsides.

Imagery of Walt across these eras is used throughout the exhibit to humanize him for contemporary audiences.
